Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Precision Pharmacology

A postdoctoral research scientist position focused on precision pharmacology is currently open in the Tatonetti Lab at Columbia University. The successful candidate will lead the lab’s efforts to investigate the molecular mechanisms of adverse drug reactions and drug-drug interactions. Using clinical data and genomic data (both public and private), the candidate will use data science methods to investigate the pharmacogenetic and pharmacoepidemiological causes of drug response variation.

New York-Presbyterian Hospital Electronic Health Records

  • 6.5 million patient records
  • 20 years of longitudinal data
  • 90 million diagnoses
  • 70 million procedures
  • 50 million prescription orders
  • nearly 1 billion laboratory measurements

Columbia University Institute of Genomic Medicine Data

  • 4,000 patients with whole-exome sequence data (linked to the EHR)
  • 30,000 phenotyped controls
  • 8-10K additional patients sequenced per year

UK Biobank Data

  • 500,000 genotyped patients (with medical records)
  • 1.5M diagnosis histories
  • 1M drug exposures
  • thousands of additional phenotype data (http://ukbiobank.ac.uk)

Requirements

  • PhD (completed or near completion) in biomedical informatics, molecular biology, human genetics, computational biology, or a related field
  • Less than five years of postdoctoral experience
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with fluency in spoken and written English
  • Established track record of publishing in peer-reviewed research journals
  • Experience with computational, statistical and/or mathematical models
  • Familiarity with experimental molecular biology protocols and sequencing technology
